In today’s global food industry, quality and safety are not just competitive advantages – they are non-negotiable. Recognizing this, Kauno Grūdai, one of Lithuania’s leading food manufacturers, has announced the implementation of the International Featured Standards (IFS) across all its ready-to-eat and instant product facilities. This strategic move reinforces the company’s commitment to exceeding international quality benchmarks and expanding its global footprint.
Setting Higher Standards for Trust and Growth
“IFS is far more than a certification – it’s a mindset,” says Rima Juknevičienė, Quality Director at Kauno Grūdai. “It pushes us to review every aspect of production, from sourcing raw materials to delivering the final product to consumers, ensuring that every stage meets the highest global requirements. Our ambition is not just to meet market expectations, but to surpass them.”
While Kauno Grūdai has operated under the BRCGS standard since 2005, the company’s growing exports have highlighted the need for multiple certifications. Markets such as Germany and Italy place high value on IFS certification, especially among major retail chains.

A Strategic Move Across Key Production Sites
IFS is being rolled out in three of the company’s main production units:
- Alytus – instant noodle production
- Kėdainiai – instant noodles and porridges
- Širvintos – ready-to-eat meals, including soups, stews, and legume dishes
“IFS digs deeper into risk assessment, evaluates process efficiency, and drives continuous improvement,” notes Juknevičienė. “It’s a tool for staying ahead, not just keeping up.”
Value Beyond Certification
IFS certification not only opens doors to new markets and partnerships but also strengthens consumer trust. “Every standard we adopt is ultimately for our customers,” adds Juknevičienė. “Today’s consumers demand transparency – they want to know where their food comes from, how it’s made, and how quality is ensured. IFS allows us to answer those questions with confidence.”
Commitment to Leading, Not Following
For Kauno Grūdai, IFS adoption is part of a long-term vision, complementing its existing BRCGS certification and reinforcing its position in the global market. “This is an investment in our reputation, reliability, and the trust of our customers,” concludes Juknevičienė. “Food safety has no boundaries – our goal is to be among those setting the standards, not simply following them.”
